• Slika HAZUIn the library of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, Strossmayer square 14, Zagreb, a book “FORENSIC DNA APPLICATIONS: AN INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE” was presented, edited by Professors Dragan Primorac and Moses Schanfield. The book was first presented in Seattle (USA) in early 2014, during the annual meeting of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, attended by 8 000 scientists from around the world, and it immediately sparked huge attention amongst professionals.

    The book was published by one of America’s leading publishers, CRC Press Taylor and Francis, New York, and one of the books reviewers, Professor Robert E. Gaensslen of the University of Illinois, Chicago, the editor of the world’s leading forensic magazine, Journal of Forensic Sciences, wrote in his review that the book by Professor Primorac was “the most comprehensive book published in the U.S. to date, in the field of forensic DNA analysis”, and the fact that 52 of the world’s leading experts in forensic science from 8 countries took part in its creation further illustrates its importance.

    The book was presented by academician Zvonko Kusić, President of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, academician Pavle Rudan, General Secretary of the Academy, academician Vladimir Paar and Professor Davor Derenčinović, Vice President of the Academy of Legal Sciences and Deputy Chairman of the Public Prosecution Council. As a guest of honour, President of the American Academy of Forensic Science in 2011-2012, Professor Douglas Ubeaker, addressed the audience.

    The audience at the presentation ceremony included Mr Siniša Varga, Minister of Health, Professor Vedran Mornar, Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Mr Evelin Tonković, Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Branko Hrvatin, President of the Supreme Court, Mrs Ana Garačić, Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Professor Ankica Marinović, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Science, Higher Education and Religious Denominations, Mr Jakob Miletić, President of the Civil Department of the Supreme Court, Mr Vinko Mioč, President of the Criminal Court of the City of Zagreb, Mrs Vesna Kusin, Deputy Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Mr Luka Burilović, President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, Professor Pero Lučin, Rector of the University of Rijeka, Professor Željko Turkalj, Rector of the University of Osijek, the newly elected Rectors of the Universities of Split and Zagreb, Professors Šimun Anđelinović and Damir Boras, respectively, Mr Davor Šuker, President of the Croatian Football Federation, a number of MPs, judges, employees of the judicial and law enforcement bodies, faculty deans from a number of Croatian universities, lawyers, leading Croatian scientists and many more distinguished guests from the Croatian public and cultural sphere.

    This exceptional scientific publication deals with all processes in forensic science (from the crime scene to the courtroom) and in the United States it is primarily intended for judges, lawyers, investigators, prosecutors, police, military, employees of federal agencies such as the FBI, all institutions involved in national security, the academic community, especially students of forensic science, medicine and law etc.
